The Foundation is dedicated to furthering knowledge in the specialised field of dermatology and is a major training centre for future specialist dermatologists. Dermatology registrars are specialists in training. They are medical graduates who have entered post-graduate advanced dermatology training for a five year period. At the end of that time they can qualify as specialist dermatologists.
We have made an outstanding contribution to the training of specialist dermatologists funding a steadily increasing number of registrar positions. We estimate that in the past 15 years, 95% of dermatologists who have graduated in NSW have spent at least one year of their training at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia, at either our Westmead or Darlinghurst facility.
The Foundation also funds a number of research positions providing excellent opportunities for research and education. It is hoped that the results from the research projects undertaken will contribute to the provision of highly specialised services in the management of skin disease and skin cancer.
We also provide around $1.5 million worth of training to dermatologists, trainee dermatologists, general practitioners, medical students, nursing staff and nursing students who attend teaching clinics and programmes at the Foundation.
